An earlier report discussed a NASA Spirit Rover image that seemed to show parts of a broken sculpture. Of great interest was the appearance of a humanoid female torso. Figure 1 shows the torso and some surrounding rubble.

Further inspection of Figure 1 revealed additional surprising information. There appears to be a representation of a humanoid face on one of the rocks in the picture. The face is up-side-down in Figure 1, so Figure 2a shows the picture inverted with circles drawn around the face. Figure 2b increases the contrast to bring out more details. A stereo viewer does help to make the face seem more real.

A magnified and contrast-enhanced image of the face is shown in Figure 3. It has some similarity to the gray alien of modern folklore. For comparison, a picture of a gray was obtained from the Project Camelot website. This was said, by someone with first-hand experience with gray aliens while in the US military, to be an extremely lifelike representation of the real thing.
Clearly, there is a match in the shape of the head and in the shape and location of the eyes. The crown of the head in the Mars image is somewhat flattened and narrowed, but the stereo view shows that this is due to occlusion by the objects just in front of it. The details of the nose and lip areas do not seem to match as well. Figure 2b suggests that the lower part of the face might be obscured by another object, perhaps a representation of either a breathing apparatus or some kind of vegetation.
Notice that the head is given a three-dimensional quality by its position on the medium. That is, the edge of the face next to the right eye coincides with an edge of the rock on which it is drawn. There is the impression of an ear orifice which is "around the corner" from the front of the face. The ear is best observed in the smaller but less blurred stereo view of Figure 2a or 2b.

We can only speculate why the face was etched onto the rock. Perhaps this rock was part of the sculptures that seem to have existed on this site at one time, and the face may be the signature of the author of the work. Was it the grays who long ago created these likenesses of other beings who may or may not have been indigenous to Mars?
A discovery of this magnitude deserves careful consideration of the source of the image. Most people accept without question the images obtained from the NASA website. However, the discovery of cultural imagery on Mars similar to that found on earth should prompt us to consider the reliability of the source. Without speculating on motive, it is conceivable that someone with access planted the Sol 076 images in the Spirit image database.
Assuming that the image data was not planted, there will be those who argue that the scene was created by natural forces and that we generally see what we expect to see in any arrangement of light and dark pixels. But, given the number of separate anomalous objects in the image as well as the similarity of the faces in Figure 3, it is possible to reach a different conclusion. That is, we have never been the only intelligent humanoid species in the solar system. Otherwise, we would not be seeing the image of the gray both on earth today and etched on an archeological artifact on Mars.
